Busan names Ann Hui Asian Filmmaker of the Year

HONG KONG filmmaker Ann Hui , a pioneer in Hong Kong's New Wave Movement  and at the front lines of the golden era of Hong Kong cinema, will receive the 2014 Asian Filmmaker of the Year Award at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival.

The award is presented every year to an Asian filmmaker who has significantly contributed to the development of the Asian film industry and Asian culture. Hui's finesse in portraying the lives of the lower and middle class in Hong Kong, and the lives of women across different genres, has made her very popular in Hong Kong and an icon of the Asian film community.

The Golden Era (Haung Jin shi dai), featuring Tang Wei and set against the backdrop of 1930's China, will be screened as part of the Gala Presentation at the fest, which runs October 2-11 in Busan, Korea. The Golden Era  has also been selected as the closing film of this year's Venice International Film Festival.
