Variety Pay Wall To Tumble Down

Variety’s online pay wall will be taken down, new owner of the 107-year old entertainment icon Jay Penske has told staffers. Journalists have been frustrated that their content is less read online because the pay wall only allows subscriber access.

Penske Media Corp. and hedge fund Third Point paid $25 million to Reed Elsevier for the business earlier this month. Digital company Penske Media already owns Deadline.com, a website that has in just six years become a stable news source for show business professionals.
