China Reins In Box Office Fraud
CHINA, the world's second largest movie market, plans to introduce more measures to combat fraud at the Chinese box office.
China's State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) says it will introduce more technical measures and stricter regulation to combat distortions in ticket sales aimed at boosting the marketing profile of some films.
Allegations that Chinese distributors have inflated box office receipts have been circulating in the industry for months and are said to have given the Motion Picture Association of America a stronger hand in recent closed-door negotiations with China Film Group. During those negotiations, the Chinese agreed to allow international audits of box office receipts beginning in 2016, sources close to the talks told The Hollywood Reporter.
