France's Hollande Google's Schmidt Meet Over Controversial Bill

FRENCH president Francois Hollande will meet October 29 (today) with Google head Eric Schmidt over a controversial proposed bill that, if passed, would force search engines to pay for content.

French newspapers want search engines to share ad revenue they get from user searches for news contained on media websites. Google has threatened to exclude French media sites from its search results if the bill is passed. In August the German government approved draft legislation forcing search engines to pay commissions to German media websites.
