Haneke’s Amour Sweeps Euro Film Awards
CANNES Palm d’Or winner Michael Haneke’s Amour, took best picture, best director, best actor and best actress honours in the European Film Awards, the pan-Euro answer to The Oscars.
The 81-year-old Jean-Louis Trintignant won best actor and 85-year-old Emmanuelle Riva, best actress, for the French, German and Austrian study on love, aging and death. Handed out by the European Film Academy, the awards honoured only films coming from Europe.
Best cinematography went to Sean Bobbitt for Shame, best screenwriting to Tobias Lindholm and Thomas Vinterberg for The Hunt, while Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci picked up a Lifetime Achievement and Helen Mirren the European Achievement In World Cinema awards, respectively, at the 25th edition of the ceremony, held Saturday, December 1 in Malta.
