Maverick Shields Makes Next Move

SOCIAL media maverick Joanna Shields is to become the new chief executive of the UK’s Tech City Investment Organization.

In what is being hailed as a significant coup for the current UK government, Shields, who is now vice president of Facebook and responsible for the business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, has agreed to spearhead a push to bring more foreign investment into the area around Shoreditch in East London. She will step up to her new position in January.

About 3000 digital companies, many of them start-ups, are already in Tech City, but the area has also  seen investment from giants like Google, Intel and Cisco. Before moving to Facebook, Shields was the president of AOL People’s Networks, former CEO of BEBO and a former top dealmaker for Google.
