Traditional TV Still Tops in UK
TRADITIONAL TV viewing still massively trumps viewing on tablets, computers and smartphones in the UK.
Reports from the UK commercial marketing body Thinkbox and linear TV measurement firm BARB found that 98.5% of average daily viewing in the UK in 2013 was live and on conventional sets. An Australian Multi-Screen report recently found similar results, with 93% of viewers in Oz choosing to watch TV live and on conventional sets in 3Q 2013. The new UK report found that viewing on tablets, smartphones and PC's accounted for only 1.5% of TV viewing in 2013.
Thinkbox chief executive Lindsey Clay told The Guardian while new screens are making TV more convenient, the TV set will continue to be the favourite way to watch TV, especially as on-demand services become more available.
