TWC/Netflix Ink Pay Groundbreaker

INTERNET streaming provider Netflix has signed a groundbreaking pay TV output deal with The Weinstein Co. (TWC) that gives Netflix exclusive US subscription TV service for TWC first run films starting in 2016.

The pact, the biggest in the history of TWC, includes all TWC theatrically released feature films from 2016, starting with TWC and Dimension Films.  Netflix had a previous agreement in place for TWC documentary and foreign films, including Oscar winner The Artist.

TWC currently has a deal with CBS's Showtime Networks for all first run movies for the year 2015 but maverick Netflix stepped in to outbid Showtime for the multi-year deal.  TWC co-founder and producer Harvey Weinstein and Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos have told Variety and other news outlets they intend to work together to reinvent the pay TV window.
